The history of diabetes is rich with examples of the importance and utility of clinical research. One of the most dramatic moments was when Dr. William Sansum injected the first patient with U.S. made insulin in 1922 here in Santa Barbara.

TYPE 1 DIABETES

Artificial Pancreas Project

A series of related studies evaluating fully automated insulin delivery systems in people with type 1 diabetes. Involves a closed-loop system connecting information from a continuous glucose sensor and an insulin pump.

Trial Net Natural History Study (TN-01)

Screening close relatives of those with Type 1 diabetes for risk factors for developing type 1 diabetes themselves.
