There are several ways to diagnose diabetes. Each way usually needs to be repeated on a second day to diagnose diabetes. Testing should be carried out in a health care setting (such as your doctor’s office or a lab). 

See your doctor regularly for the following: 

  • Get your blood glucose levels measured
  • Have your blood pressure measured 
  • Have your cholesterol measured 
  • Have your eyes screened 
  • Have your kidney function monitored 
  • Have your feet checked 
  • Have your weight checked
  • Every 19 seconds 1 American is diagnosed with diabetes 

  • 1 in 4 over the age of 65 have diabetes 

  • 9 out of 10 people that have diabetes do not know they have diabetes

  • The National Medical Cost of Diabetes in the U.S. is $245 Billion
