Katie Haq

Katie has lived with type 1 diabetes (T1D) for over 32 years. Katie’s passion for the diabetes community began at a young age when she became a T1D mentor at City of Hope and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. In addition, Katie volunteered for several years at the diabetes camp, Camp Conrad Chinnock, and enjoyed working within the T1D community.

In 2016, Katie became the Central Coast Outreach Consultant for JDRF and was able to work closely with the local T1D community and established integral programs to support the T1D population. Katie joined Sansum Diabetes Research Institute in 2017 as an Outreach Coordinator, and in 2018 became the Outreach and Marketing Manager. She is passionate about creating programs on the central coast that offer education, support, and community to the T1D population.

Katie earned her bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of California Santa Barbara. She lives in the Santa Ynez Valley with her husband and two children. On the weekend you might find her at the beach with her family, teaching Sunday School, or stand up paddle boarding.
