Types of Diabetes during pregnancy:
Gestational diabetes is when a woman who has never had diabetes develops high blood sugar levels during pregnancy and after childbirth her sugar levels return to normal.
Preexisting diabetes and pregnancy is when women with type 1 or type 2 diabetes become pregnant and are at risk of significant complications.
When a pregnant woman’s diabetes is not controlled, she and her baby’s health are at increased risk for complications. In the long-term without proper care, a mother with gestational diabetes and her child are still at risk of developing type 2 diabetes post pregnancy.
